Life With Braces Doesn’t Have to Slow You Down

We get it – you’ve got sports, music, friends, and a million other things going on. The good news? Modern orthodontics is designed to fit your busy life. Whether you want to make a statement with colorful bands or go completely “stealth” with clear options, as a leading orthodontist in North Platte and McCook, we have the perfect fit for your style.

Treatment Options for Teens

Every teen is different, so we offer a variety of ways to reach that perfect smile:

  • Traditional Metal Braces: Still the most popular choice! They are smaller, more comfortable, and more durable than ever. Plus, you can customize them with your favorite colors at every visit.
  • Clear (Ceramic) Braces: These work just like metal braces but use clear or tooth-colored brackets, making them much less noticeable. Perfect for older teens who want a more discreet look.
  • Invisalign® for Teens: Completely clear and removable. You can eat what you want, brush and floss with ease, and no one will even know you’re straightening your teeth.
  • Angel Aligners: Another advanced clear aligner option we offer to provide flexible, precise results for our teen patients.

How Long Will My Orthodontic Treatment Take?

The “active” phase of treatment for most teens usually lasts between 12 and 24 months. Because your jaw is still growing and developing, your teeth move more predictably and quickly than they do for adults.

Your progress depends on three things:

  1. The Plan: Dr. Haugen creates a custom roadmap based on your specific needs.
  2. Biology: Everyone’s body responds to treatment at a slightly different pace.
  3. YOU!: Wearing your rubber bands and aligners as directed is the fastest way to get your braces off and show off your new smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

There’s usually some minor soreness for a day or two after you first get your braces or get an adjustment, but it doesn’t last long. Most teens find it’s easy to get used to!

Absolutely! We recommend wearing a mouthguard for contact sports, and for musicians, there’s just a small adjustment period to get used to the feel of the brackets.

For traditional braces, you’ll want to stay away from very sticky or hard foods (like caramel or popcorn) that can break brackets. If you choose Invisalign, you can remove them to eat whatever you like!

Typically, we see our teen patients every 4 to 8 weeks to check progress and make adjustments. We offer flexible scheduling in both McCook and North Platte.

As a specialized orthodontist in McCook, Dr. Haugen has years of experience specifically with adolescent jaw growth, ensuring your teen gets a functional, healthy bite and a beautiful smile.
